Today we are going to deal with one of the popular issue, that all are going to face after windows 10 update. This will be a common issue among those who are using windows 10 through their laptop based on Intel processor. The issue is about the brightness button which doesn’t work after you install windows 10 or upgrade from an older version like windows 7, windows 8 or from windows 8.1
Those who had update from windows 7 to windows 8 or 8.1 may already have experience with these kind of issue. So we are dedicating this page for those who have not technically talented and those who are facing this issue for the first time.
Why laptop brightness button is not working after windows 10 update?
Before going to the solution, we like everybody to know the reason behind this issue. The one and only one reason for this brightness issue is due to the missing of related software drivers. Almost all of the latest Intel processors have on board graphics and corresponding graphics drivers which will get trashed during the system update. When you are performing a system update from windows 8 or 8.1 to windows 10, you are wiping out all of the system drivers and programs. This make difficulty in detecting the graphics hardware after you open up brand new windows 10.
So to make the brightness button working on windows 10, you need to download and install the corresponding drivers. If you are a beginner to windows platform, you may face difficulty in installing the same. So we are giving two easy way to get back the brightness button working in windows 10. Check out how to get the drivers.
Solution 1 – Brightness issue fixing using built in device manager
In this first method, we are showing you how to fix the brightness button issue without using any third party tools. We highly recommend this way to solve the above problem. Here we are using the windows built in software named Device manager which keep tracks all of the drivers and hardware components in your PC. Every-time you connect a hardware to your PC, device manager will list out it and it will show whether the corresponding drivers are missing or not.
In our case, we have an built in graphics hardware component which provides the graphics related function to our PC. But the drivers will be not there as we just migrated to windows 10. So we need to download and install the drivers first. For installing drivers using device manager, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Press the start button and search for “device manager”.
Step 2: Then you can see the device manager menu get pop up. Click on it.
Step 3: There you can see a “display adapter” tab. Under display adapter, you can see “Microsoft basic display adapter“. Right click on it and choose “Update driver software“.
If the drivers are already up to date
Step 4: Navigate to other devices tab. There you can see many devices without corresponding drivers. Update them which are closely looking to your display drivers. For eg: “3D video controller” in my case.
Step 5: Sometimes you may require a restart.
If you got a success message, then you are finished instilling the inbuilt graphics drivers. In some cse, the above method won’t able to download the corresponding software. You can check the device manager again for the same drivers. In my case, after updating the drivers, I will get my Intel HD graphics option. This will fix the brightness issue on Intel based Laptops.
Solution 2- Brightness issue fixing using 3rd party software
Don’t get worry if the first solution won’t work for you. Here is an alternative solution. In this alternative method, we are showing you two tools, which help you to get the missing drivers of your PC.
The first one is 3D chip.
Step 1: Download and install 3D chip software from the official page.
Step 2: After installation, open it.
Step 3: Now you can see almost all of your hardware components which doesn’t have corresponding drivers. There will be an alert symbol against each hardware parts is the drivers are missing.
Step 4: Press on Video card [or whatever resemble your graphics driver].
Step 5: Now you will redirect to a page from where you can download the corresponding drivers.
Step 6: Install the drivers after download get completed.
The Second tool is Drivermax
Step 1: Download and install the drivermax software.
Step 2: Open the tool and click on the “Scan for driver updates” option.
Step 3: Now you can see all the hardware components with missing or outdated drivers.
Step 4: Find out your graphics hardware component from the list and download the drivers.
Like 3D chip, you don’t need to install the downloaded drivers manually. Drivermax automatically install the downloaded drivers.
Here is my Display adapters after updating the Graphics drivers. This will make the Brightness button working fine in all Laptops running on all versions of windows including Windows 10.
